Alienware LAN case

Dell

An idea spawned by Dell’s Alienware Gaming division turned into a super cool carrying case targeting users that play at LAN parties. Alienware wanted an arresting case that enhanced and promoted the Alienware brand and created intrigue and interest for the players that carried it.

An out-of-this-world design.

While industrial design is at the heart of all that we do, the Alienware LAN case took these skills further with its expanded engineering requirements and parts integration. In developing the case structure and detailing, we took the geometry and design elements from the laptop itself to extend the brand throughout the LAN experience.

The details bring this product to life. The two-shot molded handle features graphic elements that feel uniquely like Alienware. We also integrated a PCB board and magnetic switch into the design so that when the user opens the case, the Alienware head lights up and glows. Internally, we incorporated molded, polypropylene foam to protect the laptop and accessories wherever the user’s gaming adventures take them.

Slice Inc

When a new product line comes on the market ready to make its mark, Uneka looks at things from a different perspective to provide packaging advantage. For Slice, we have integrated their unique brand device into a variety of form factors to create a unified line and on-shelf presence.

Building in the brand.

Ranging from a simple, PET or rigid box to a combo box/sleeve construction or folding cartons and die-cut foams, the Uneka team has created a system for Slice’s state-of-the-art cutting products that sets them apart. Our challenge was to integrate a core angled branding element into each package. For the rigid box, the corner is cut off showcasing the slice. The unique scissor box incorporates a white paper and die-cut cross-link foam interior with a clear PET sleeve that showcases the same sliced corner.

Branding is everything for this line. Across the line, we have cost-effectively integrated the branding into the structure to create an unmistakable opening experience.

When renowned San Francisco design agency Astro Studios called Uneka to help them design and manufacture a line of packaging for their new line of gaming audio gear, we jumped at the chance. From interesting opening options and dramatic graphic treatments to some of the most challenging elements to manufacture, we got to truly push the limits with these packages.

Engineering a dramatic experience.

Bringing our packaging design expertise to gaming products created by the industrial designers at Astro was an incredible experience. Across all of the designs we used a rigid box construction with a twist — an unusual opening experience. This ranged from diagonally hinged boxes to triptych door reveals. The paper-wrapped rigid box exteriors and interiors featured cool, intricate graphics that fit the Astro Gaming line and required flawless execution in manufacturing. Elegant details like magnet closures and ribbon pull-tabs gave all of the packages the distinctively high-end, engaging feel that Astro was going for.

Getting a better view.

When consumers see the Looxcie 2, it’s clear they’re in for a different kind of video experience. Enabling that experience on the shelf was one of our key objectives. In this design, the Looxcie 2 a clear, plastic clip makes it look like the camera is floating in the middle of the package. This unique design lets consumers see the camera from almost every angle – giving a real look at its size and simplicity. This is surrounded by a custom-molded, black pulp, multi-part box with a clear window to ensure the Looxcie 2 is the center of attention.

To avoid cluttering the package with printing, product information is included on four printed labels around the edges and the back of the box. With the Looxice 2 package, we mixed green approaches with high-tech styling to create a very now and very noteworthy design for this new video option.

After seeing the great things happening with the Stylus and the TPS pacakage, Nixon wanted to expand its efforts to give the entire product family an updated unboxing experience.
A smart, stylish family.

The remaining XX products draw upon the distinctive interior paper-wrapped tray design developed for the TPS. One of the most critical components was ensuring that the Nixon-branded graphics appear through the window, which was what made using paper so important.

Inside these packages, a sturdy, foam-backed graphic card or paper covered tray works triple time as the structural element that hold the product securely in place, the stylish cover that keeps cords discreetly out of sight, and the window into the branded Nixon experience. Across the entire line, we were able to eliminate the unboxing annoyance of twist ties and still keep the product securely in place using strategically placed foam or paper scaffolds.

With the same side panel wrapping and opening experience as their predecessors, these pieces feel like family, but with their own individual style.

For the newest product in Nixon’s growing audio line, the company wanted a fresh feeling package to capture on-the-shelf attention and align with its brand aesthetic. Uneka developed the Stylus package to showcase the product and deliver a branded unboxing experience.

Cool design and the start of a system.

In addition to wanting great looking packaging for their Stylus product, Nixon also wanted to use this development exercise as a jumpstart for updating all of its product packaging.

The solution was simple. The interior panels of the Stylus package are a door to the world of Nixon with their photo collage treatment and immediate access to the headphones. When the user pulls the headphones out, they surround a pillar that houses the accessories and that can be used as a stand for the headphones to kick it on their desk when they hit the pause button.

By literally designing the Stylus package from the inside out, we created a powerfully cool unboxing experience with ongoing impact.
